German groups take migrant aid to Poland border

(8 Nov 2021) A tourist bus carrying humanitarian aid left Berlin on Monday bound for the border region between Poland and Belarus, following reports that a large group of migrants in Belarus was heading for a crossing point. German humanitarian organisations Seebrücke Deutschland (SeaBridge Germany) and LeaveNoOneBehind organised boxes of supplies, including winter clothes and medical aid, to be sent to the border area to support the work of local Polish movements and NGOs. The groups say also they want to bring back a number of migrants to Germany but that the German government has not so far authorised such a move.     “But it would be also an opportunity for Angela Merkel to set a humanitarian signal at the end of her time in government,“ said Tareq Alaows, an activist with Seebrücke Deutschland (SeaBridge Germany).
