Mega Man X - Flame Mammoth Perfect Run (No Damage, Uncharged Buster-Only, No Upgrades)

Today, we return to the world of Mega Man X to take on a Flame Mammoth Perfect Run. This stage was such a pest to get through, for me, taking well over an hour to complete. It was interesting to play it normally, though, as since I always go after Chill Penguin first, the lava is always frozen over. It was like experiencing a new level, haha. Anyway, the main challenges here were the conveyor sections of the level. The chutes above them can drop one of two enemies, but it’s slightly random which one comes out when. The first is a broken-down head of the Utuboros mid-boss while the other is a Scrap Robo. The latter is much more annoying to deal with, as it will try and shoot lasers from its eyes to hurt you and will damage you on contact. The Utuboros head is much better to get, as it can be used as a platform and is safe to touch. The second conveyor section in the level gave me so much trouble. There are four platforms you need to get through, and while you can safely run under the crushers on the first, second, and fourth, the third platform at 1:28 is much more dangerous as the direction of the conveyor is going backwards. My best strategy is to preemptively cause the crusher to fall and balance on the edge of the platform, running under it as it raises. Be careful here, though, as any Scrap Robos that drop down will almost always spell certain doom for you. The last section of the level isn’t as bad, but requires you to carefully jump over small spiked robots that move from side to side in no given pattern. Time your jumps well and you should be good to go. Finally, we make our way to Flame Mammoth, himself. The best way I can describe my strategy to deal with him is playing a game of Keep Away. Flame Mammoth will try and lunge forward while shooting out fire and occasionally throwing oil that he can light to make a Fire Wave. Before he hits the ground, jump, as he’ll shake the ground when he lands, stunning you and putting you at risk of getting hit. As you fire at him, keep moving to the opposite side of the screen so you don’t get hit by him. Flame Mammoth can also trumpet and change the direction of the conveyor beneath you. Now, here’s where it gets tricky. There will be a lot of times where Flame Mammoth will manage to trap you in a corner. Due to his large frame, you do not want to let this happen. When he you get backed up, climb up the wall and jump over him *only* when the conveyor is moving him towards the wall. If it isn’t, it is almost guaranteed that you’ll get hit when trying to do so. When you can’t jump over him, try and carefully lower yourself down to run under him the next time he jumps. Dodging Mammoth in this fashion is what caused me to have trouble completing the run, but just be prepared and ready to move and you’ll manage to succeed. Created using WeVideo.
