Produced by The Jam Handy Organization and presented by the membership committee of the American Dental Association, this film from the late 1940s titled “The Story of the American Dental Association” acted as promotional material for the ADA to entice new members, and to educate the public about the difference between a “real“ dentist and a quack. The film likens the ADA to a necessary governing body that maintains order and upholds safety and education standards to ensure there is no corruption of the dental industry the same way Congress and The House of Representatives safeguard law and order in the United States. Narrated by Vincent Pelletier, written by George Wilcock, and directed by Haford Kerbawy, the film discusses the organization and founding of the organization as well as the history of dental practices and advancements in education standards and college programs. The American Dental Association (ADA) is an American professional association established in 1859 in Niagara Falls, New York. It was later renamed the National Dentist Association before being re-founded as the ADA in 1922. Today, the ADA has more than 152,000 members. It is the largest and oldest national dental association in the world and is committed to both the public and the dental profession.
