Surfing the Strait of Juan De Fuca in Washington | Surfing Port Angeles Washington | Mountainmandan Hello everyone, in this video I will show Surfing the Strait of Juan De Fuca in Washington. We provide the best video of surfing Washington state and cold water surfing. These the movie of our lives are what I have always wanted to capture. It took me long enough to capture. I always avoided it at the risk of compromising the experience by fretting over the perfect shot, timing it, the lighting, or any other reason I suck at filming and documenting it adequately. The goal is to provide the emotional feel of what I am feeling while actually performing it. Executing the trip after planning, preparing, mapping, and then putting the wheels into motion. The crispness of the cold, morning surf checks. The energy the waves were pushing with. The deep conversations were held over the campfire. The life-filling, warmth of a dinner plate on your lap and hands after getting out of your wetsuit. The connection of new friends at a remote camp. With the adventure of everyone driving in from different locations and arriving at different times, excitement grows with each new vehicle rolling up to the site. Being the filmer. Trying to document this amount of fun. The love between us, the surf, our dogs, each other, and just pure magnetism of the moment. Absorbing that moment that we are in, and recognizing that THESE are the moments we are trying to create again and again and again. We truly are our own worst critics. Eventually, I realized that my desire to get the story out had grown larger than wanting to get it right. Or perfect. Or that perfect doesn’t exist for this type of project. Just doing more of them and capturing more of these moments trumps the need to make it just right. Now I am in the refinement stage. Benefitting more from doing more projects, trying new things, using other influences to craft my own filming method, and hopefully adopting other techniques of editing to attempt to see how the finished product can evolve into telling better stories. I now realize that I should’ve begun when the van journey started, not years later. It would’ve been funny to see how my abilities, confidence, and general personality grew when entering van life. The early videos would have been a wild montage of biking, partying, boating, and ultimately me traveling all over in an attempt to find myself. I can guarantee it would have been entertaining, but probably glimpses into a person I wasn’t fully proud of. The process of my van life travels has been a lot of deep diving. I am not done either. But I am aware of more things than I ever have been now and am so interested in the openness and vulnerability the road has taught me and am now able to finally share it in a way I believe can help others.
