Setback for Benjamin Netanyahu as Israel’s Supreme Court strikes down law curbing judicial oversight

Israel’s Supreme Court nullified a controversial law passed by PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing government on Jan 1, 2024. The new law had limited the Supreme Court’s power to overturn government decisions. Protests against Israel’s judicial overhaul had been ongoing in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem for months. On Jan 1, 2024, eight out of 15 justices ruled in favour of nullifying the law.
