INTIMATE PORTRAITS – Polish National Opera

Intimate Portraits is a stage fantasy based on the repertoire of German Romantic Lieder by Johannes Brahms, Franz Schubert and Robert Schumann. Through music, evocative descriptions of landscapes, and the paintings by Caspar David Friedrich which serve a backdrop to the performance, worlds - better known through the poetry of Goethe and Schiller - come alive on the stage in Warsaw. Staged and sung by Opera Academy artists of Teatr Wielki - Polish National Opera, Intimate Portraits sees lyrical characters emerge from song and their stories take form on stage. The characters traverse Romantic landscapes, seek personal answers to questions about the nature of love, the ways to rebel, and the truth about themselves on the ‘stage of the world’. This multi-sensory exploration of Romantic poetry is complemented by a rich piano repertoire for four hands.
