With each passing year, the Arizona desert proves deadlier for migrants making their way into the U.S. But the journey has always been treacherous: Over four decades ago, Dora Rodriguez and her group lost 13 lives as they tried to cross the desert, in one of the most haunting incidents of its time. Her photo, taken during rescue, became a symbol of hope – and built momentum within the Sanctuary Movement. Dora’s commitment to migrant human rights endures to this day.
