Model Cathedrals (1965)

Measham, Leicestershire. Bill Talbot, a retired miner, makes models of churches and cathedrals out of concrete. We see Bill at work on a model in the garden of his council house. Lincoln Cathedral, Canterbury Cathedral and Coventry Cathedral are amongst his creations. A young boy admires the cathedrals through a window. Narrator observes that: “they say there is something of the sculptor in every miner that hacks away at the coal face“ and indeed Bill’s models are pretty good examples of “three dimensional loveliness“.
