Please do bear in mind, as with most of our videos, what we’re showing are clean, often simplified ways to access and execute technique and action. We feel these make for better and clearer videos and this technique is a great example of this. Because the reality is that an action like this can be accessed in many ways and at speed, under pressure, it’s probably going to get fairly messy, our opponent won’t be compliant and it would be frenzied. Hopefully controlled! But frenzied none the less. Because that’s combat! This is a Play with sword in one hand from the treatises of medieval combat master Fiore dei Liberi, however it can just as easily set up when using the sword in two hands. Remember the sword is just a tool and it’s the same weapon for both disciplines. Theres nothing at all to say you have to keep both hands on it at all times or to use the weapon exclusively with just one hand either.
