Two separate yet entwined stories show the challenges to happiness for Michael and Thomas in the aftermath of World War 2 in time when such love was forbidden and dangerous and to Adam and Steve in the present day. Sixty years later the widowed Flora’s grandson, veterinarian Adam surfs the net for casual, one-off sex with male partners. When Flora gifts him the cottage where Michael and Thomas lived in secret, he employed architect Steve, who has an open relationship with the older Caspar, to renovate it. Despite Adam’s fear of commitment, Steve persuades him they should become a proper couple.
