A Complete Exploration of the Dreamcore Game Poolrooms (No Commentary)
This is a long-form exploration of the demo of the Dreamcore game by ValenQPR. Check out his website, if you would like more information or to download the game for yourself. I highly recommend it.
I hope you enjoy the video! It was definitely an adventure to record, and I was often afraid of messing up my route mid-way through the recording. I think I avoided catastrophe, so hopefully this will prove to be entertaining or useful to those who want to see the whole game but don’t want to struggle through the absolute MAZE that is this map. But I love it!
To the best of my knowledge, this video explores every room in the demo. The method I used is a common technique used in solving mazes called “wall-following.“ In this instance, I always “follow“ the wall to my left. Although it does involve increased amounts of “backtracking“ to rooms that have already been visited, it ensures a more thorough exploration and a greater sense of the map as a whole. To maintain a real spirit of exploration, I do not use the sprint function (feel free to speed up the video if you prefer), and I try to examine different points of interest, even if briefly.
I acquired the flashlight before recording at the starting room. This allows for easier exploration and ensured that I would be able to reach the “dark“ zone of the map without a problem. I chose not to interact with the entity so I could complete the demo with the “good“ ending of getting into the elevator. The entity will appear elsewhere if you do interact with it in its spawn room, but it doesn’t change the actual map itself in any way.
Regarding the video itself, there are only three minor edits that should not drastically affect anyone’s viewing experience. At two points in the video I mute the audio for several seconds due to my recording software picking up desktop notifications. The second mute also has a slight editing “jump“ in the hallway where I was walking. Additionally, on my first return to the starting room, I paused the game for a couple of minutes to take a break. I cut the pause out to try to make it as smooth as possible.
