The Harp Consort “Ballo del GranDuca“ Cavalieri (1589) Andrew Lawrence-King & Xavier Diaz Latorre
Live from Feldkirchen (Austria), where The Harp Consort appeared in trio formation (Marco Beasley, Xavier Diaz Latorre), here is an instrumental duo, the complete Ballo del GranDuca, Cavalieri’s all-singing, all-dancing finale to the 1589 Florentine Intermedi.
The original performance had more than three hundred singers and instruments, contrasting this very large ensemble with a trio of three sopranos, who simultaneously danced and accompanied themselves on guitars and tambourine.
Here, Andrew takes on the roles of all those singers, whilst Xavier represents two guitars and tambourine!
