And why not indeed, when the singer is the astonishing Ingeborg Hallstein. In addition to her amazingly easy and relaxed way with the fioritura, I love the warmth and lyricism with which she imbues the music. This is not a brittle, acidulated rendition a la Roberta Peters, but a sincere and charming portrayal of a young girl who perhaps wishes she were slightly more coquettish than she really is. Too bad there is no video to let us enjoy looking at her as well; not since Schwarzkopf have vocal perfection and great physical beauty been allied to such an extent in one singer.
