32. The Sumerian Kings List, 450,000 years ago, Alalu takes control of the Kingdom of Sumeria

One of the most significant artefacts from ancient Mesopotamia is this Sumerian Kings list clay prism (modern Iraq). The Sumerian language is written in two columns of cuneiform (wedge-like) script on each of the four sides. A series of cities in Sumer and its surrounding territories are listed, along with their rulers and the duration of their reigns. There are several versions of the Sumerian King List that have survived, but this one is both the longest and the most comprehensive.
