China’s Overseas Tourists Plummet by 99%; Xi Jinping’s Chinese Dream Is Shattered

After the pandemic, China witnessed a dramatic shift in its tourism landscape. In the first quarter of this year, Chinese travel agencies accommodated only 52,000 inbound international tourists, marking a staggering 99% drop from the 3.7 million visitors in the first quarter of 2019, before the outbreak. Of these 52,000 tourists, half were from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. Tour groups from Europe and America have almost vanished. A Wall Street Journal report on 3rd August said, “As interactions between China and Western countries decrease, the narrative of long-term decoupling will become more pronounced.” #chinatravel #foreigners #tourist #chinaobserver All rights reserved.
