Giants of America; Covering Mounds - Susquehannock/Conestoga + Hidden History (Lincoln Speech, 1848)

Howdy ya’ll. Today we’re going to take a deep dive into the history of Giants in America. For many years a common perceived notion was the existence of Giants, which was held in common belief from as far back as early written history, through at least the 19th century. We will look specifically at the forgotten history of the Susquehannock (later Conestoga) Indigenous People, who according to encounters with John Smith in 1608, were of a gigantic stature. We will peer through the seldom discussed narrative of the Susquehannock and their disappearance from the records in the late 18th century. We will also focus on the 17th and 18th century dash to occupy indigenous lands which resulted in the excavation of thousands of indigenous burial tombs and mounds around the United States. Browsing hundreds of published descriptions, news articles, and even scientific reports from the 19th century, we will address the contents of the mounds, while examining a handful of these excerpts. Something that seems ominous is the continued appearance of museums to collect the artifacts and specimens. Our video will continue diving into the purpose that New Museums of the 19th century seemingly served in documenting, and then discrediting, the evidence of the mound excavations. We will finish with a quote from Abraham Lincoln in 1848 regarding Giants and the history of America. Truly a fascinating and intriguing video for you today.
