Born on May 25, 1976, in Douglas, a suburb of Cork city, Ireland, Cillian is the oldest child of Brendan Murphy, an employee of the Irish Department of Education and his French-tutor wife. He has a brother, Páidi, and two sisters, Orla and Sile.
