#ThrowbackThursday: The biggest crowds with the loudest fans

If volleyball athletes on the court display some of the best action in the world, the fans in the stands help create one of sport’s most incredible atmospheres. The largest crowd for a volleyball match was back in 1983, when over 95,000 passionate supporters watched hosts Brazil defeat Russia in straight sets (15-3, 15-4, 15-5) at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro. Of course, the Maracanãzinho next door will host the world’s top teams at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games in August this year.
