Village Of Peace (1968)

Sedlescombe, East Sussex. Several shots of groups of young boys and girls walking about the Pestalozzi Children’s Village; the nationalities seen are Indian, Arabic and Thai, mostly in traditional dress. Commentator explains that the work of the Village has changed from the rescue of refugees and war orphans to educational work for children from poor and developing countries. Various shots show the children being trained in the mechanics of a farm tractor, learning English in a classroom where all the pupils wear headphones / microphone headsets (presumably listening to explanations in their own language). We see some Arabic and Thai children playing some form of scrabble; a young girl is taught pottery by a woman; a boy pours liquid into some funnels (I’m not sure what he is learning to do); two Indian girls sit weaving at looms.
