A short history of Japanese Horror

I’m talking of course about Japan. But what is it that’s made this country’s films so damn scary. We will be taking a journey though the history of Japanese horror, from its origins the Kaidan and Kabuki in the Edo period, though the Gothic horror of the Tale of Ugetsu and tokido yotsuya Kaidan, the nuclear horrors of Godzilla and Matango, the Pinku Eiga of the 70s, the golden age of Ringu and Dark Water in the late 90’s and the social horror of Battle Royal.
